Information

This is a rare design among a group of Japanese Export Porcelain inspired by the Dutch Delft artist Frederik Van Frytom (1632 - 1702). Van Frytom decorated a series of small dishes that were made for the Tea-Ceremony in Japan, marked MB and dated 1684. Several designs inspired by him were made at Arita somewhere around 1700, it led to other similar designs being produced, notably at the Jingdezhen kilns in China and at Bow in England. Pieces with Van Frytom designs were recovered from the Ca Mau Cargo (Yongzheng 1723-1735) see our Archive 14792 for a Cau Mau example and 16294 for a none shipwreck example. In our Archive in the Japanese section see 18600 for an Arita example.
