A Massive and Rare Unfinished 17th Century Blue and White Arita Porcelain Dish.
A rare late 17th Century Arita porcelain dish for the Dutch market. The unfinished armorial design with a blank coat-of-arms to the center has a helm above it supporting what appears to be a Counts coronet, this design is surrounded by Baroque swags which appear to resemble foliage. The border is of scrolling foliage with perched and flying birds, there are figures holding two of the stems of foliage. There are four roundel reserves of flowering plants. The base has sixteen spur marks.

The central shield was destined to be enamelled in Holland, it is unclear why this dish and the example in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam were left without the intended enamel that would have identified the owner.
