Information

An Imperial Ming Design :
This Lotus design is a Kangxi revival of a Ming original from the early 15th century. Two Xuande mark and period bowls of this design are in the Palace Museum in Beijing. The Kangxi revival of this pattern was used on Imperial porcelain dishes of this size until the end of the Qing dynasty. Bowls were also made but these are normally from the Kangxi period.

Lotus :
The lotus is one of the most important symbols in the Chinese art. This Buddhist emblem is a symbol of purity, as the perfect flower grows out of muddy ponds without a stain. The words for lotus in Chinese has the same meaning as to bind, connect (in marriage). It is one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism. It is the flower used to represent summer.
