QIANLONG 1736 – 1795 Chinese Export Porcelain

An 18th Century Chinese Export Blue and White Porcelain Candle Stick, Qianlong c.1750 – 1760. The European Silver Shape is Decorated with Peony and Various Borders. The Base is Painted with Two Figures Crossing a Stone Bridge with Buildings Including a Pagoda Among Pine Trees.

Although not from the Nanking Cargo, the style of painting on this candle stick is very close to pieces from wreck of 1752. The use of a glaze with a strong blue hue and the subject matter on the base also relate to the pieces recovered from the wreck of the Geldermalsen (Nanking Cargo).



Condition: In very good condition. A area of fritting to the top rim with resultant loss of the brown iron-oxide dressing c.12 x 2 mm. The candle stick leans to one side.
