Rare Kangxi Famille Jaune Porcelain Cup c.1700
A rare Kangxi Famille Jaune porcelain cup c.1700. This small lobed cup has a butterfly form handle. The painting consists of panels of flowering plants set against the yellow ground. Famille Jaune is really a variation on the Famille Verte palette, essentially it uses the same enamels but has a vibrant translucent yellow ground. There are many late 19th and early 20th century Chinese copies of Famille Jaune. Also at this period a large number of genuine Kangxi porcelain objects were ‘enhanced’ by unscrupulous dealers, the addition of a yellow ground greatly increased the value of the object. The present example is a rare genuine piece decorated during the Kangxi period.
