References: A closely related Yongzheng porcelain plate with a different fishing scene is illustrated in : The Choice of the Private Trader, The Private Market in Chinese Export Porcelain illustrated from the Hodroff Collection (David S.Howard, Zwemmer,1994. ISBN 0 302 00642 7) Page 70 Item 49. Howard`s comment is, as usual, illuminating "This illustrates Chinese life in a way that would haves been familiar to merchants residing part of the year in Canton and Macao....This may have been another of the designs from which merchants chose. Certainly the comparative scarcity of such pieces does not indicate large consignments in the period immediately before the Dutch initiative with Cornelis Pronk".

Chinese Land Based Net Fishing :
This unusual method of fishing uses a large net cantilevered using weights or man power. The net is fixed on the shore, shallow swimming sea fish, or freshwater fish can be caught in large numbers. Introduced into China from the Indian state of Kerala during the 14th century this ingenious system of fishing is dying out in modern China.
