A Fine Miniature Transitional Porcelain Vase c.1640 – 1650

A fine miniature mid 17th century Transitional Porcelain vase, late Ming or early Qing, Chongzhen period 1627-1644 or Shunzhi 1644-1661. The base with an apocryphal Xuande mark (Ming dynasty). Carfefully painted in a deep rich tone of cobalt blue this tiny vase is decorated in the ‘pencil’ style ; that is line drawing without tonal washes. Fine quality miniature porcelain vases such as this were recovered in small numbers from the Hatcher Cargo of c.1643.
