A Pair of Rare Japanese Kakiemon Type Porcelain Vases c.1660 – 1670.

A pair of rare Kakiemon type porcelain vase, perhaps Arita or Kakiemon kilns c.1660-1670. The vases are modelled as the lower section of a bamboo cane growing from a textured rockwork base with rather comical looking tigers with their tails up. Enamelled in early Kakiemon type enamel colours. The unglazed bases have an imprint of the fine textured cloth they were dried on.

Condition
In excellent condition, one tiger with a chip to its nose, both tigers have a very small chip to their ears. Some firing cracks.

Two of these Kakiemon type vases, described as being Kakiemon, perhaps a pair, both restored with worn enamels of different colour schemes were offered for sale : Japanese Works of Art, Paintings, Swords and Sword Fittings, Sotheby's London, 19th and 20th March 1990, lot 207, estimated £10,000 to £15,000.
