Information

According to Dr. Jochem Kroes the cracked plate illustrated in 'Chinese Armorial Porcelain For The Dutch Market' (see reference below) is one of only two pieces known from this service. Abraham de Derde of Middelburg made several voyages to the Orient in the 1730's and 1740's and must have commissioned this armorial service at that time. It is thought that his first voyage was to Batavia in 1736-1737 as a ships surgeon on the Dutch East Indiaman 'Dishoek'.

For one of only two previously known examples from this service and more information see : Chinese Armorial Porcelain For The Dutch Market (Dr Jochen Kroes, Waanders Publishers,2007.ISBN978-90-400-83310) pages 261-262 cat. 173.
