SEVRES 1776 French Soft-Paste Porcelain

An 18th Century Sevres Bleu Celeste Porcelain Cup and Saucer, `Goblet Bouillard et sa Soucoupe` Painted by Jean-Baptiste Tandart and Gilded by Jean-Pierre Boulanger in 1776. Painted with a Bouquet of Garden Flowers Suspended from a Ribbon and Bow Encircled by a Garland of Pink Roses Set Against a Bleu Celeste Ground. The Bases with Interlaced LL`s or the Sevres Factory and the Date Code for 1776 with Painters and Gilders marks.

Jean-Baptiste Tandart :
Jean-Baptiste Tandart worked at Sevres 1754-1800. Jean-Jacques Pierre, known as Pierre Jeune was a flower painter who worked at Sevres from 1763 to 1800 but had started life as a fan painter before entering the Vincennes factory on the 21st of April 1754. He painted sprays, bouquets, wreaths and garlands, various border patterns and garden landscapes.He painted arabesques from 1785, Buffon birds from 1787 and then when tastes changed Republican symbols and allegories (from 1793). He painted tea services and other useful wares but also a large number of furniture plaques. He contributed to the Madame du Barry service of 1769 .

Jean-Pierre Boulanger, Pere:
Jean-Pierre Boulanger worked at Sevres was born in 1722 and worked for Sevres from 1754 to 1785. He started at Saint-Cloud before moving to Vincennes in July 1754 as a gilder. His initial wages at Sevres were 42 Livres rising to 78 Livres in 1774. He married Marianne Cron and one of their sons, Jean-Marie Robert or Vincent, worked as a painter at the factory from 1778 to 1781.
