A Very Large 17th Century Japanese Porcelain Bowl, Arita Ware
c.1680 - 1700
A Very Large 17th Century Japanese Porcelain Bowl, Arita Ware c.1680 – 1700. This large deep Japanese porcelain bowl is thickly potted with a very high foot. The exterior is painted with bamboo, the well has a landscape of a promontory with houses by rocks and a pine tree with boat on the water. The inner border of diaper pattern broken up by cartouches appears to be borrowed from contemporary Kangxi porcelain. The painting using a variety of tones of inky appearance is typical of the period.
