ARITA c.1660 – 1680 Japanese Porcelain
An Early Enamelled Arita Porcelain Jar and Cover c.1660-1680. Decorated in Over-glaze Enamels in Red, Mustard Yellow and Blue, there is Also Under-glaze Blue Used for the Lines Dividing the Different Registers. The Design is of Two Birds Among Flowering Foliage.

- Very good, a tiny shallow chip to the outer rim of the jar c.3 x 3mm. The cover with a crack c.25mm. Minor staining to crazing on the lower part of the jar.

Early Arita enamelled wares are by no means common, this design is only found on jars and covers of this form, they were made in two sizes. This group is some times referred to as early Kakiemon.
