A Small 17th Century Ko-Kutani Dish

A Ko-Kutani Dish Peach Shaped Dish c.1640 – 1650. This Ko-Kutani Dish was made at the Kutani Kilns, Enuma County, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The underglaze cobalt blue and overglazed enamels depicts a parrot perched on a flowering and fruiting pomegranate tree. This the right side is intersected by a textile design creating an asymmetrical that appealed to Japanese taste. The back is painted with a scrolling lotus design in the Chinese taste. This Ko-Kutani dish comes with an inscribed Japanese box.
