KANGXI 1662 – 1722 Famille Verte Porcelain

A Late Kangxi Famille Verte Porcelain Plate c.1700-1720. Decorated with a Central Scene of a Long Tailed Bird Perched on the Branch of a Willow Tree. With Flowering Plants Including Chrysanthemum. The Seeded Lotus Ground of the Border Contains Cartouches with Fish and Shrimps.


Condition: One quite deep chip to the back rim c.6 x 4 mm.

Ribbon-Tailed Bird / Shoudainiao :
The ribbon-tailed bird is in fact two different birds, the male Asian paradise flycatcher (Terpsiphone paradisi) and the red-billed blue magpie (Urocissa erythorhyncha). The ribbon-tailed bird is sometimes called the longevity-bird because the ribbon (Shou) is a pun for longevity (Shou).
