KANGXI or YONGZHENG c.1710 – 1730 Dutch Decorated Chinese Porcelain
An Early 18th Century Chinese Export Porcelain Pear Shaped Vase, Late Kangxi or Yongzheng. The Vase with a Cafe au lait Ground was Decorated in Holland c.1720-1740 with `The Basket Pattern` to One Side and a Chinese Style Landscape on the Other.

Cafe au Lait and Batavia Wares :
The Cafe au Lait ground colour on the exterior of the porcelain was achieved by using a small amount of iron oxide in the glaze, a slightly larger percentage of iron-oxide produces a rich dark brown colour refereed to as Batavia ware. This was named after the Dutch East India Companies (The V.O.C.) trading town of Batavia which started in 1619, from 1949 it has been called Jakarta.
The Basket Pattern :
The basket basket pattern or flower basket pattern originated in China and represented abundance. It is frequently found on Kangxi blue and white as well as famille verte porcelain. It occurs on Dutch decorated Chinese porcelain from about 1720. The Dresden Palace has a piece which as added to the inventory of 1723. It is probably the most common of all Dutch decorated porcelain designs and is often used as part of the decorative scheme. It was a design with longevity, indeed an English saltglazed stoneware jug with this design enamelled in Holland is dated 1773. The Dutch also used it on Delft ware, using the design with Petit Feu enamels.
