18th Century Chinese Export Porcelain Bowl with Dutch Decoration

c.1710 - 1750

A Late Kangxi or Yongzheng Chinese Export Porcelain Bowl from the Andrew Dando Collection of Dutch and English over decoration. This Chinese porcelain bowl has Blue and White borders, a flower to the well and incised An Hua decoration to the exterior. The porcelain dates to c.1710 – 1730, the Dutch decoration c.1730-1750. Many Chinese bowls and other forms were made with carved (AnHua or secret decoration) but the Dutch found they sold better if the subtle carving was covered in bright red, green and gold. This bowl, a sloop bowl from a tea service has one of the most popular designs, a large basket overflowing with flowers. This design occurs on Dutch polychrome pottery of the period.
