18th Century Japanese Porcelain with Yin Yang Design
An Unusual and Striking Mid-18th Century Japanese Blue and White Porcelain Dish, Arita Kilns c.1740-1760. The center is painted with a rare version of the Yin Yang symbol using concentric circles, this is within double lines. This is surrounded by highly stylised flowers which have been painted directly, rather than being total washes for line-drawing. The flowers are repeated on the reverse and the base has a running FuKu mark among four stilt-marks.
- In excellent condition, very minor glaze scratches.
- 18.7 cm (7 1/4 inches)
- Stock number
Another fairly rare version of the yin-yang is one that uses concentric circles divided in half and alternating black and white to each side.
