A Rare Dutch Decorated Plate

c.1715 - 1730

A Late Kangxi or Yongzheng Porcelain Plate c.1715-1730, decorated in the Famille Rose style in the Netherlands in the 1730s. The bold, well painted design, is of an exotic bird among pomegranates, peaches, roses as well as other other flowers and insects. Chinese plates such as the present example were imported as ‘blanc canvases’ for Dutch decorators. Very few plain Chinese Export Porcelain pieces are extant but there are many pieces with Dutch or English decoration known. However, the majority of pieces started life with Chinese decoration which was then ‘enhanced’ with European decoration to add value to the porcelain.
