A Rare Gold, Red and Black Decorated 17th Century Japanese Porcelain Dish
A rare small early gold, black and red decorated Japanese Porcelain dish c.1655-1670. This unusual dish, made for the Japanese domestic market, was perhaps made at the Nangawara Kilns. A number of dish with raised Nyoi – Head moulding have been attributed to the Nangawara Kilns during this period (1655-1670). The cavetto of the present dish is moulded in relief with Nyoi – Heads containing complex decoration. The painting depicts mountains with trees set around water, two buildings including a temple as well as a flock of birds flying.

- In very good condition, there are two minute glaze flakes to the front edge. Some rubbing to the overglazed decoration.
