A Small 18th Century Japanese Blue and White Dish

c.1700 - 1770

An Unusual Small 18th Century Japanese Blue and White Dish, Arita Kilns c.1700 – 1770. The design consists of a single Mon, a Samurai clan badge. There are many Mon designs on Japanese porcelain, they are often incorporated into a design or there might be several Mon as a part of a design. This dish is very unusual in that the only decoration is that of a single Mon. There are many clan badges, although it isn’t an exact match it could perhaps be from the Omura Clan or one of three others (see four related clan badges bellow).
