c.1690-1730.

The interior is of six panels, framed ogee-shaped solid borders.  The designs, all taken from nature, two panels show a simple dwellings on a rocky outcrop, another two, bamboo with other flowers and there are another two panels of rocks with flowers. Each panel has heavy looking clouds, painted with a wet brush, without the use of outlines. The well of this Japanese bowl is painted with pomegranate. The exterior shows orchids as well as other flowers, all under a stylised rain border, again done with a wet brush and no outlines. Large bowls of this type were popular in Europe, for an larger blue and white Japanese bowl, dated to 1680-1700 from Twickel Castle, illustrated in : Fine and Curious, Japanese Export Porcelain in Dutch Collections (Christian J.A.
