An 18th Century Japanese Porcelain Dish

c.1750 - 1790

An Unusual 18th Century Japanese Porcelain Dish, Arita Kilns c.1750-1790. This thickly potted dish has an everted rim and a large area for the central design. This unusual scene is of a Japanese traditional room called a zashiki . There is a banana plant and a cycad growing beyond the room, a stylised sky lingers over the room. The border consists of stylised snow flakes and chevron, the rim is dressed with the gold lustre. The base has a mark which is perhaps more of a design than anything meaningful.
