An Unusual Japanese Blue and White Porcelain Dish

c.1680 - 1720

An Unusual Late 17th or early 18th Century Japanese Blue and White Porcelain Dish, Arita Kilns. This somewhat strange design depicts a small flower above leaves and a stem, perhaps Camellia. This is set against a fabric inspired pattern of radiating white, mid-tone and dark blue. The white panels have blue line painted on that are echoed in the dark radiating panels as pale blue. The latter is achieved through wax resist. The base has an unusual mark.
