ARITA c.1690 – 1730 Japanese Porcelain
An Unusual Blue and White Japanese Porcelain Dish of Circular Form with a Foliated Rinka Rim. This Dish is from the the Génroku (1688-1704) or Kyōhō Period (1716 1736). The Irregular White Area in the Center is Thought to Symbolize a Thunder Bolt, While the Ground Consisting of Squares Represents Flagstones, these have Two Flowering Chrysanthemum Sprays Overlaid on them. The Reverse has Scrolling Karakusa and an Apocryphal Chinese Ming Mark of Chenghua (1465-1487).
