An Unusual Black Backed Dish Southern Song Dynasty 1127 – 1279

An unusual shallow porcelain dish, Southern Song Dynasty 1127-1279. The front has a transparent pale greenish glaze, the rim is unglazed and the back has a rich black iron-oxide glaze. The thinly potted dish has a refined thin footrim and is constructed of a rather open structured body of sugary appearance. To some extent it appears similar to pieces produced in Nanfeng county, however the body is more akin to Qingbai ware.
