An Unusual 19th Century Blue and White Nabeshima Porcelain Dish c.1810 – 1840. Nabeshima Kilns, Saga Prefecture, Kyushu. The Thickly Potted Canted Square Form Stands on a High Foot. The Scene is of a Large Grand Pavilion or Temple Complex Set Against Cliffs with Pine Jutting Out into a Calm Lake.

- This design is one of a group originally selected by the Shogun Ieharu (1737-1786) in 1773, and continued to be tendered and reserved for presentation to the Shogun during the Edo period. A very similar dish is illustrated in Kyushu Ceramic Museum : Nabeshima: Porcelain for the Shogunate, page 195, Section 5, number 228, dated to the period 1810-40.
