Northern Song or Jin Cizhou Type Dish

c.1000 - 1200

A Cizhou Type Stoneware Dish, Northern Song or Jin, 11th or 12th Century. This simple thickly potted Cizhou dish takes the form of an open flower. The rough hard gritty stoneware body is covered in a thick creamy slip which has been punctured by the stilt marks on the surface of the dish which relate to the dish that would have been fired on top. The foot has marks that correspond to the dish that would have been stacked below it in the kiln.
