ORIBE WARE 17th CENTURY Japanese Pottery
A Rare Early 17th Century Oribe Hanaike, Vase, Late Momoyama or Early Edo c.1600-1630 . This Heavily Potted Hanaike is of an Irregular Cylindrical Form with a Waisted Shoulder and Two Small Mimi Handles Joining the Top to the Shoulder of the Vase. The Body has Cut and Carved as Incised and Painted Decoration. The Middle of the Hanaike Shows the White Slip Left in an Uneven Panel Against the Rich Iron Oxide Glaze. The Painting of Plants Starts from the Base of the Vase.

Information
Oribe is one of the Mino styles originating in the late 16th century. It takes its name from tea master Furuta Oribe (1544–1615).
This vase comes with a wooden box and a Thermoluminescence Analysis Report by Laboratory Ralf Kotaalla, Haigerlock, Germany, giving the piece an age of 400 years +/- 20%.
