Late 17th or Early 18th Century Japanese Porcelain Dish

c.1690 - 1720

A Small Japanese Blue and White Porcelain Dish, Arita Kilns c.1690-1720. This small hexagonal dish is decorated with a boy with a wooden ladle and a cup next to a jar, which probably contains water. This is further suggested by the pale border which has crashing waves and prunus flowers in a technique using Sumihajiki technique (wax-resist). The base has an apocryphal Chinese Chenghua mark (Ming dynasty 1465-1487). The back has a border of stylised Shou characters.
