A Fine Kangxi Famille Verte Porcelain Double Sided Tile c.1700
A fine Kangxi Famille Verte Porcelain tile c.1700-1720. The double sided hollow Famille Verte porcelain tile is painted in great detail with a scene of a scholar kneeling in front of his desk to presenting a letter ( ? ) to a well dressed woman holding a fan. The scholar`s desk is laid out with scholars equipment including a brushpot with brushes, ink-stone, water-pot and a book. To the left is a young servant peering through a circular opening to offer two cups of wine to the couple. Further left the garden is visible with a fine balustraded fence and a scholar`s rock. The reverse of the tile is more simply painted with scholar`s objects. The sides unglazed with holes made to support the tile within a wooden surround, the sides show textile marks that remain from when the clay was wet.
